CAST IRON RADIATORS FAO
What is a bush/end cap? The bush/end cap is the part which is fixed into the radiator to allow the valves to be fitted, the most common sizes required are 15mm (1/2”) or 22mm (3/4”) although some older pipe works may require other sizes. If this is the case an adaptor can easily be sourced through your local plumbers merchant. What is a BTU? A BTU (British Thermal Unit) is a unit of energy for measuring heat and is quoted per hour, this can also be measured in KW per hour. To convert from BTU to kW multiply by 0.000293, to convert from kW to BTU multiply by 3414. Do I need a plumber to install my radiators? Cast iron radiators require the same plumbing techniques as the modern equivalent , so a competent DIY person can install them, although we do recommend using a plumber. Are Cast iron radiators as efficient as modern steel radiators? Although cast iron radiators take longer to heat up than steel radiators, they retain their heat for longer after they have been turned off, therefore keeping your room warmer for longer. Are the Cast Iron Radiators guaranteed against defects? Yes, all our Cast Iron Radiators come with a 10 year Guarantee against manufacturing defects. Will cast iron radiators work with a microbore pipe work? As a rule they will work fine, but for large radiators it can be difficult to balance the system. We suggest discussing this with your plumber. Can the radiators be painted in colours other than those quoted on the website? No problem we can offer a wider range of paint finishes and a colour matching service. Why does it take 2 – 3 weeks for my Cast Iron radiator(s) to arrive? Each Cast Iron Radiator is hand finished/built. We first spray the sections individually, assemble, pressure test and then apply the final coat of paint. As this is a very labour intensive process we do require 2 – 3 weeks to prepare your order. What if the paint finish is damaged during installation? On request we can supply touch up paints free of charge, please contact us if you require this. Are our cast radiators suitable for use with ground source heating systems? Due to the nature of cast iron radiators they retain the heat better than a modern equivalent and are an excellent choice for use with ground source heating systems. |
