Hand Forged Finishes

All our hand forged traditional ironmongery are available in a beeswax finish. However, we are pleased to add selected items in a traditional black powder coated or pewter patina finish. So which finish is suitable for you? Please read below the specifications of each type of finish.

Traditional Beeswax

All products with this finish are treated with a special wax imparting subtle matt richness to the iron metal. This gives excellent protection where products are fitted internally and maintained. We recommend you polish the item with a soft cloth to restore the finish.

However, mild steel or malleable iron, which are the two materials used to forge the ironmongery, when fitted in damp conditions (like a bathroom), have the potential to exhibit surface rust. In this situation we recommend an application of maintenance wax (see below).

Also make sure all plaster work is fully dry before fitting ironmongery.

NEW!Black Powder Coated Finish

Our powder coated finish can last for 15-20 years and is an excellent low maintenance option for exterior ironmongery applications. Powder coating provides an attractive, durable and corrosion resistant satin finish. The powder coating process has may advantages over conventional metal paints, namely; it contains no solvents, it does not run and provides a tougher coating. Please not that we are only able to offer a selected range of powder coated ironmongery.

NEW!Pewter Patina Finish

This finish beautifully highlights the texture and colour of the steel. A stylish and modern finish suitable for a new or period property. Like the powder coated finish it has excellent anti-corrosion properties and is suitable for external uses. If you want a low maintenance finish combined with a superb natural metal colour then the pewter patina is an ideal choice.
