Limehouse Lighting Finishes

Limehouse Lighting Finishes

Our Finishes Explained
All our products are finished meticulously in-house by hand. Traditional finishes are hand dipped and patinated in-house and where required polished to achieve an individual look.

Plated finished are sent away to a local specialist contractor and checked and polished by our in-house team one by one to keep our tradition alive.

We endeavor to recreate the past with our finishing which helps to make our products unique in the world where mass production uniforms so much of our environment. We strive to produce products that are as unique as the homes and buildings they adorn.

Polished Lacquered Finish (PB)

The item is polished and lacquered to obtain a bright and glossy appearance. Requires the occasional clean with a damp cloth and is suitable for interior lights or external products. Please note: We do not recommend a lacquered finish on external lights near coastal areas as salt degrades the lacquered finish very quickly.

Care instructions: To keep lacquer in good order. Do not use abrasive cleaners or cloths. Use a soft clean damp cloth and wipe away any dust or sediment as required.

Un-Lacquered Natural Finish (PBUL)

This item is polished only and will gradually tarnish and mellow in colour. Alternatively cleaning with brass polish will retain a bright finish. Recommended for interior and exterior use.

Care instructions: We recommend using a brass polish such as Brasso. Use a soft cloth so as not scratch the base metal. Apply polish to the cloth not the base metal and polish as required. The Un-lacquered base material will naturally patina without the regular cleaning. Avoid leaving finger marks as these will tarnish the base metal more quickly.

Distressed Antique Finish (AB)
The item is degreased and soaked in a chemical that physically ages the metal. It is then polished back to reveal the metal beneath. This finish will mellow with age and requires no cleaning or maintenance to keep its appearance. Recommended for interior and exterior use.

Care instructions: Do not use abrasive cleaners or cloths. Use a soft clean damp cloth and wipe away any dust or sediment as required. The finish will naturally mellow with age and require minimum maintenance. Avoid leaving finger marks as these will tarnish the base metal more quickly and leave uneven finish.

Old Antique Finish (ANT)
The item is degreased and soaked in a chemical that physically ages the metal. The finish is a greyish bronze and requires no cleaning or maintenance to keep its appearance. The fitting will look as if it has tarnished for decades. Recommended for interior and exterior use.

Care instructions: Do not use abrasive cleaners or cloths. Use a soft clean damp cloth and wipe away any dust or sediment as required. The finish will naturally patina with age and require minimum maintenance. Avoid leaving finger marks as these will tarnish the base metal more quickly and leave un un-even finish.

Nickel (Unlacquered) (N)
The item is de-greased and soak cleaned, followed by an electric clean bath to remove any further impurities that may cause de-lamination. The item is then Nickel plated with a minimum of 10 microns of Nickel (more than twice the minimum requirement for BSEN-12540). The product is then polished ready for use.

Care instructions: Do not use abrasive cleaners or cloths. Should a bright polished appearance be desired, we recommend using a brass polish such as Brasso. Use a soft cloth so as not to scratch the plating. Apply polish to the cloth not the base metal and polish as required. The un-lacquered plating will naturally mellow in the same way as silver without the regular cleaning. Avoid leaving finger marks as these will tarnish the plating more quickly.

Copper (Unlacquered) (C)
The item is de-greased and soak cleaned, followed by an electric clean bath to remove any further impurities that may cause de-lamination. The item is then Copper plated with a minimum of 10 microns of Copper (more than twice the minimum requirement for BSEN-12540). The product is then polished ready for use.

Care instructions: Do not use abrasive cleaners or cloths. Should a bright polished appearance be desired. We recommend using a brass polish such as Brasso. Use a soft cloth so as not to scratch the plating. Apply polish to the cloth not the base metal and polish as required. Un-lacquered copper will turn verdigris without regular cleaning and can be left to tarnish in this manner if desired. Avoid leaving finger marks as these will tarnish the plating more quickly.

Bronze (BZ)
The item is degreased and soaked in a chemical that bronzes the metal. It is then cleaned and lacquered to achieve a natural bronze finish. Requires the occasional clean with a damp cloth and is not suitable for exterior use.

Care instructions: To keep lacquer in good order. Do not use abrasive cleaners or cloths. Use a soft clean damp cloth and wipe away any dust or sediment as required.
