CAST IRON RADIATORS

Please note (Unlike many of our competitors) all our cast iron radiators are hand assembled in the UK to your specification, tested to conform to BS EN442-1 and BS EN442-2 and pressure tested to 8 BAR. All our cast radiators are guaranteed for 10 years for manufacturing defects.

After rigorous testing on system inhibitors, we recommend FERNOX products (www.fernox.com) for our cast iron radiators. Please contact us for further details.

Our assembly process listed below we believe is the best in the industry ensuring customer satisfaction.

THE ASSEMBLY PROCESS

  • The relevant number of sections is picked and assigned to your order. The paint, if required is ordered.
  • Each section is individually given two coats of paint and left to dry.
  • When dry the cast iron radiator is assembled.
  • The cast radiator is then pressure tested for 24 hours.
  • Once the pressure test is passed the cast iron radiator is given a final coat of paint and left to dry.
  • When completely dry the cast radiator goes through a final inspection and is wrapped and boxed ready for despatch. At this stage you will be contacted to agree a suitable delivery date.

DIMENSIONS

All our traditional cast iron radiators are individually hand cast and assembled, meaning lengths and widths of the radiators can vary slightly. We advise that you take delivery of your radiators before installing your pipework.  Measurements given are a guide only.  Unless otherwise specifically requested, radiators will be supplied bushed with ½ inch bushes.

PAINTING

Please be aware that colours presented online will vary between different monitors and that printed colours may vary slightly from the actual paint colour.  If in doubt a visit to our showrooms is advised or we can arrange for a colour swatch to be sent.

Carron have provided a selection of Luxury Bleed Valves to further accessorize your Cast Iron Radiator and complement your other accessories. The Luxury Bleed Valves available so far include Brass, Chrome and Satin Nickel (these are only optional so you can still have standard bleed valves as an option).

Palletised Deliveries

Our palletised deliveries will be shipped by an independent haulage company using a HGV. When shipped using this method the haulage company will attempt to deliver pallets as close as possible to your main entrance, usually to the closest hard-standing area. The drivers are not contracted to remove items from the pallet, or to carry items into the customer’s property due to their insurance. Clients should warn the Company if there is restricted access, or gravelled driveways etc.

Cast iron radiators are very heavy items and usually need 2 strong people to move them, the larger radiators may need more.

The customer must make sure there is someone in the house on the agreed delivery date. We can arrange for the courier to call you 1 hour before delivery. Our standard delivery times are between 9am and 5pm for timed, and/or Saturday deliveries which can be arranged at an additional charge contact our office to arrange. The Company reserves the right to charge a redelivery fee should a redelivery be necessary. Cast iron radiators are very heavy, please ensure that there is sufficient manpower to unload the pallet.

Standard Courier Deliveries

We mostly use DPD & Parcelforce for our deliveries. The products we ship using this method are generally able to handled by 1 person. You should be in to take delivery on the agreed date, however if you are out the courier will leave a card for you to contact your local depot to make arrangements.

Please be aware you must inspect the goods for damage prior to signing the delivery notes. If for what reason you are unable to inspect the goods sign the sheet as unchecked.

Best Price & Quality
Sunday, 18 January 2015  |

We received quotes from 4 companies for our cast iron radiators. Period House Store came back with the best price, and we are not disapointed with the quality. We were concerned about spening a large ammount on the internet, but you can certainly trust this company.

Are pipework measurements available before delivery?

We can supply approximate measurements as Cast iron radiators are hand assembled and can vary slightly.  We do recommend receiving your radiators prior to the completion of any pipework.

If you need any assistance with this please do not hesitate to contact our sales office.

Which Valves do You Recommend?

We offer two types of valve, thermostatic and manual. Manual valves remain at a fixed temperature that your heating system is working to.  Thermostatic or TRV are adjustable.

If your pipes are coming from the floor you need standard angled valve, if your pipes are coming from the wall a corner valve is required. If you have any questions on your cast iron radiators contact our sales office.

Our Cast Iron Radiators are available in a wide variety of finishes, below is information on the main finishes but if you have a particular finish in mind contact us to discuss.

Primer Finish

Primer is basically an undercoat which needs finishing in order to prevent rusting. It is possible to paint our cast iron radiators yourself using the correct paint, however we do recommend you leave it to us to get a good finish and often its the most cost effective option long term.

Painted Finish

We paint our radiators to achieve a highly durable paint finish. On top of the primer we paint all the sections individually before assembly.  Once the radiators are assembled and pressure tested they are given a final overspray. Our Cast iron Radiators are available in some of our standard finishes such as Foundry Grey, and we can colour match to most of the major paint companies.

Antique Finish

The Antique Finish is achieved is achieved by layering paint shades and highlighting the detail of the radiator. This gives an aged appearance.  We have some of the standard antique finishes on the site however we can antique most colours if required.

Highlight Polish

Radiators with a highlighted polish are generally finished with a black base coat then the detail is then polished out to leave a polished silver finish to the detail.  We have also done gold and copper highlight finish.

Our specialist team are capable of creating stunning finishes, if you are looking for something different, just ask.

Hand Burnished Effect

The Hand Burnished effect is achieved by polishing the sections back to the bare cast iron. The radiators are then sealed to protect them.  It is a beautiful finish however some maintain is required to keep them looking their best.  Every 8/10 weeks use a polishing cloth with WD40 ensuring your hand burnished cast iron radiators remain free of rust.

cast iron radiators

Our Cast iron Radiators come ready assembled upto 20 sections, we can supply larger sizes which may require some on-site assembly.

The radiators are delivered in one peice complete with bleed valves and connection bushes ready for the radiator valves to be connected.

The radiators come with plastic plugs, which need to be removed to install the valves, after the pressure test there may be a small amount of water in the radiator, care should be taken when removing these plugs to prevent damage to your flooring/carpets.

When your radiators are installed, the system should be throughly flushed using a cleaning agent and then dosed with a suitable inhibitor. Sentinel and Fernox both offer a wide selection of products.

Touch up paint is also supplied to touch up any marks.

Bleed Valves

Bleed valves are used to bleed any air from the radiator, these must be installed using a liquid sealant or PTFE tape.  They will be enclosed with your touch up paint, please ensure that they are not over tightened during installation.

Water Treatment

After the installation of your Cast Iron Radiators your system should be flushed with a cleaning/flushing agent.  The system should then be dosed with an inhibitor.  It is essential this is done correctly and the system PH does not exceed 8.  Systematic testing/re-dosing is required as per the manufacturers instructions.  Both Sentinal and Fernox offer products for accomplishing this.

Failure to carry this out would reduce the life an efficiency of your heating system and invalidate the guarantee.

Further Information is available from Fernox or Sentinal

Do I need anything Else ?

All you need to install your radiators is a pair of valves. Period House store has a wide selection of traditional radiator valves which can be viewed below.

https://www.periodhousestore.co.uk/cast-iron-radiator-valves-accessories.html

We recommend using wall stays which further secure the radiators, although they are free standing. We also supply pipe shrouds which cover the feed pipes to the valves and also the hole in the floor.

Our Cast Iron Radiators are delivered using a Palet Delivery Network. It is a kerbside drop, which means that the radiators are delivered on a pallet. The driver will unload the pallet of the delivery wagon and using a pallet truck will wheel it where he can on a flat surface or into a garage.  he does not lift them into the house.  We can give you trackers on the day to give you an idea of time, also some of our customers choose to have them delivered to their builders/plumbers work address if they have one.

When your cast iron radiators are ready our sales team will call you to arrange a delivery day that suits you best.

Product Handling

Cast iron Radiators are very heavy and you must make sure that you have manpower/lifing equipment when moving your radiators into place.  The most common cause of leaks is the strain on the gaskets when carrying the radiator incorrectly, this is easily avoidable if they are moved correctly with care.

You must ensure that the radiators are only moved in the upright position once removed from the pallet to prevent flexing of the seals.  The most common method is to support the radiator in an upright position between the fins by using a suitable support bar at each end as shown below.
